Sod's Law Rules

Ever have one of those days when everything you touch goes wrong? I've had three of them on the trot. I tried to download some music to put on my third video. Would the music go in the shopping cart? Would it heck! Every time I tried, I got thrown off the site. Turned out it was a problem with the Java script and their techie was able to do a small alteration to the programming to set things right.

Then I tried to add exact amazon links to the individual books on my website. I had trouble with this, as well. I had these individual links once, but then I changed my website software and they disappeared; though I didn't realize this for ages. And then when I tried to do the links I found I'd forgotten how to do it... Anyway, I have finally discovered that I shouldn't copy and paste all of amazon's code for a book, but only the bit from http to the end of my individual reference. Of course, there's no mention of this on amazon associates' website.

Before that I sent a signed contract to America for converting my ebook for use on iPad, iPhone, etc (it's already up on kindle), only to discover when I emailed them several weeks later after not hearing anything, that they hadn't received my letter. Then I tried to scan the contract. Would my scanner work? No, it would not. So I downloaded various drivers from the net. It still wouldn't work. So then I thought I'd photograph the darn thing, which I did. Would the email with attachments send? You guessed it. The computer just kept telling me that due to 'technical problems' my email hadn't gone. So it was back to snail mail for a second attempt.

Anyway, I've got my website book links properly set up now. The music is on my video and ready to upload once Dead Before Morning is converted from its Amstrad disc, edited and proofread. And the American contract is in the post.

I'm glad this week's nearly over. Next week must be better. Mustn't it?

Guest authors for next month

This is my first venture into having guest bloggers, so I thought I'd start at the top. Hopefully, it won't be a case of working my way down...

You probably want a bit of variety? Right? So next month (October), you're getting it. I have two guest blogs scheduled. The first is British author, Sheila Quigley, who will tell us about her new novel, Thorn in my Side. This is a new departure for Sheila, with whole new characters. You're going to love it. Watch this space.

Also guest blogging next month, is American suspense author, Chris Redding. You'll learn more about Chris, more about her latest book, and hopefullly post a few comments, so we can get feedback.

I'm really looking forward to hosting these two fellow crime writers. I hope youll give them a warm welcome.

Dowm Among the Dead Men ebook

Down Among the Dead Men, my first ebook, is now up for sale on kindle. This book, the second in the Rafferty & Llewellyn crime series, was originally published in hardback by Macmillan in 1994. It's so exciting. It took a few weeks getting it ready as Kimberly 'Hitch' Hitchens, the lady who masterminded this, was a hard taskmaster and seemed to expect me to proofread it three times. Three! My print publishers have never expected more than one proofread. Anyway, I thought two was plenty, so two it got. If you go to amazon and click on 'books' and then 'kindle books' and type my name, you'll see it. It's a bargain at £2.23. I really love the cover. The book is also shortly to be available as an epub for ipads,
B & N, etc.

Interview

I was interviewed today by Gay Webster, Editor of Just Regional Magazines (North Norfolk, England). Lovely lady, we chatted about Death Dance, my latest book, how I got started, why I chose to write. I told her about my blog and how I'd just made my first video book trailer. She took a number of photos of my books and me and let me say which photos of me I liked (hate it when an interviewer takes your pictures and it turns out not to be one of the better ones that gets published. You know, double chin and all...! The interview should be in the next edition. I look forward to seeing it.

Death Dance Book Trailer - Wow! I did it!

Much to my amazement, technophobe that I am, I actually managed  to post a video to my blog. It's pretty short and basic, lacking refinements like music or commentry, but it's not bad for a first stab at it.

Have now become cocky and have also created a book trailer for Down Among the Dead Men. This is coming out as an ebook on kindle and other ebook formats. Originally published by Macmillan in 1994, it is the second in my Rafferty & Llewellyn crime series. I'm still tinkering with the video and will put it up shortly.

Memo to self: Do not post everywhere you have an account! Need only do it once and click for other postings. I'm learning, you see. I started off a few short weeks ago, not knowing how to set up a blog, how to make a video, how to post same on YouTube and now look at me! :-)

Trailer for Death Dance

I'm trying to put together a book trailer for Death Dance, the latest in my Rafferty & Llewellyn crime series. What a job! I'm beginning to wish I'd never started. I found it reasonably easy to create the actual trailer, but when it comes to uploading it to the web... Still struggling with it. Hey ho!

Kindle ebook

Just finished editing the proofs for my first ebook. This is for Down Among the Dead Men, the second in my Rafferty & Llewellyn crime series. Will post here when it comes out.
